Mark started playing golf socially at the age of 11, alongside a wide range of other sports. Upon starting high school, he chose to focus predominantly on golf with the aim of making it a career option. Mark was a member of the New Zealand Golf Titleist Academy for four years and had the opportunity to play in numerous overseas amateur tournaments. During this time he won four tournaments, placed runner up 9 times and achieved 33 Top-10 placings.

Mark turned professional in 2006 after the Eisenhower Trophy Event in South Africa. In 2007, he won two NZ PGA Charles Tour events (Carrus Tauranga Open; Titrangi Open) and the Waitemata Pro-Am, and managed to secure an Australasian PGA tour card through the end of year qualifying school. Highlights of 2008 include winning another Charles Tour event (Shirley Open) and the Te Puke Pro-Am in NZ, as well as the Border Open in Australia.

Early in 2009 he qualified for an Asian Tour card and achieved 5 Top-10 placings on this tour which helped him retain playing priviledges for the following year.

Marks home club is St Andrews in Hamilton, but he currently lives and trains in Auckland.
